Relations Between Registrant and Administrator

It is a requirement for a Registrant to appoint an Administrator to manage the domain name on behalf. Registrant has the right to appoint new Administrator anytime. In all cases, domain name ownership belongs to the Registrant, not Administrator!

The name ‘Administrator’ clearly defines the role of an Administrator. They are the person who manage the domain name, not the person who owns it. Sometimes. Registrant and Administrator can be the same person too.

Registrant grants the access to Administrator to manage the domain name. When there is a dispute between Registrant and Administrator, what could have happened?

Administrator refuses to return the access!

In this case, Registrant can go direct to the domain name service provider to get their help to appoint a new Administrator.

Generally, domain name service provider will request for proof of payment or renewal, or other supporting documents such as company registration, ID Card, passport, driver license. This is to prove that the Registrant is the rightful owner of the domain name.

Surprisingly, not every domain name service provider uphold this!

My customer decided to appoint a new administrator because the current one is not active! I am acting on my customer to deal with Sea Chen from MyExHost.com. MyExHost is the company who provide the registration of domain name to my customer.

Disappointingly, MyExHost insisted that the request must be sent out from the email address which is no longer active.

Through MyExHost is a domain name service provider, but they have totally no ideas of how the whole domain name ownership goes. Yes, I would really like to say Never register your domain name with MyExHost.com. I know this is harsh, but only after you have repeated explaining the whole concept to Sea Chen and he do not want to listen!

I doubt what is the criteria of signing up as domain name service provider!

Well, this will not stop us to claim back the domain name. We bypass MyExHost and talk directly to their Registrar, OnlineNic. MyExHost is the domain name reseller of OnlineNic.

Within a day, Online replied. Like what we have mentioned, OnlineNic requesting for the proof of ownership which we can provide! The case can be solved soon!

This is an example of how WHOIS presents Registrant and Administrator. I take webistesolution.com as an example.
